Description

Immerse yourself within the Indigenous culture this month as we showcase an interactive Art Trail and spectacular suspended wildflower display at the Fremantle Markets to celebrate the Noongar six seasons.

Grab a bite to eat and wander amongst the retail stalls in the main Hall from Friday 1st September, 2017, through until September, 2018, as you’re greeted by the vivid Art Trail that will be hand-painted on the walkway by local Indigenous artist, Deborah Newenham-Coertse.

Highlighting all six seasons over the coming year, being: Birak ('First Summer', December-January), Bunuru ('Second Summer', February-March), Djeran ('Autumn', April-May), Makuru ('Winter', June-July), Djilba ('First Spring', August-September) and Kambarang ('Second Spring', October-November). The current Djilba season will be the first to display and will draw inspiration from the yellow, cream and striking blue coloured flowers that are beginning to bloom during August and September in the southwest of Western Australia. And it’s set to be breathtaking!

Informative banners will hang throughout the area, along with Information Sheets (that will be available for your collection at the [insert details] area), so that you can personally interpret each paint stroke of this incredible Indigenous Art Trail pathway.

Adjoining in the fresh produce ‘Yard’ area will be our equally as mesmerising suspended wildflower installations, designed in collaboration with Floral Army.

The spectacular displays will hang stylishly from our rooftop to create a visual and aromatic delight and will be a must-see for every nature lover and wildflower enthusiast. We highly encourage you to photograph with each display and tag/hashtag #fremantlemarkets on your social media channels.

But if that’s not enough to entice you along, accompanying the cultural displays will be our giveaway to win the exclusive corresponding hand-painted Indigenous Australian art piece designed by none other than local artist, Deborah Newenham-Coertse.

Deborah said, "The painting represents the Noongar six seasons and will also be hanging on display during the start of the Art Trail initiative. I have designed a postcard to coincide that will be informative and educational for children and families too.

"The painting took a couple of weeks to paint and I hope that it brings the winner lots of happiness and education, as not everyone knows about the Noongar six seasons."

So come along, grab a bite to eat and enjoy two of Western Australia’s most highly anticipated cultural displays at Western Australia's iconic Fremantle Markets destination.

See you there!

More details on the giveaway will be revealed on our Facebook page soon. So stay tuned!
